Twelve talented chefs nominated by co-workers, family members and loved ones for their tempers, stubbornness and egos enter the Yes, Chef! kitchen to work on themselves and their food.

The chefs enter the kitchen to find Martha putting the finishing touches on her famous roasted chicken. Each team must prepare five appetisers one at a time.

Egos are tested in the kitchen when José and Martha present the chefs with mystery boxes labelled 1 to 5 that will challenge their skills and confidence.

The chefs are used to being leaders in their own kitchens—critiquing their team's work, deciding what goes on the menu and determining what makes it out of the kitchen.
